Your Friend In Music,
Carmella aka Lyricsinmyhead
just wanted to wish you a happy thanksgiving and GOD BLESS!!!!!
A word of encouragement from your new found friend here at WRM,
"In time...All in time.." was a favorite saying of my grandmother Kitty Casteel! (Above) A woman who was creating music as far back as 1930 and designed her record label in 1950 then obtained her license in 1952... At one point she single handedly managed 7 bands and several singers all at one time, in the early 1950's and 1960's. Imagine how hard it was for "Her" as a business woman in a dog eat dog mans world! .. She was one that helped set the pace and a great example for other successful women in the music industry. So as you see, I not only have compassion for the female Artist and Writers, but the men too and a great deal of respect for their perseverance! Imagine how hard it was back then with no computers, printers, E-mail, cell phones, music downloads, etc..etc.! What great Country and Western, Rockabilly, Blues, Jazz, Folk etc .... writers, composers and performers like Patsy Cline, Wanda Jackson, Tammy Wynett and Dolly Parton have endured! Those women deserve respect, peace and good things in life 'more than a trophy' And think of all the writers, composers and record label owners like my grandmother "Esther 'Kitty' Casteel" who worked so hard to succeed but were never really fully compensated or acknowledged for their hard work! I made sure to point those successes out in her bio. I hope this new found friendship letter encourages you as an Artist, writer, composer, performer and what ever else you decide to do in the music industry! Out of 200 and upward songs that grandmother wrote, we had several red hot labels and one Gold. Her first and favorite song was about romance between her and my cowboy grandfather while living in Cimeron, New Mexico in 1930.. Our "Rose of Cherokee" song. It went gold in Canada in the 1960's.. You never know when or where your going to get a hit ! In today's digital music and video download age/world, one hit would have made my grandmother a millionaire overnight !
Amazing isn't it? And to me, she was worth much more than a million !
These are new on you tube. I was basically just fooling around and having fun making these home movies.
One day I hope to do better ones..
"ROSE OF CHEROKEE" Artist Virge Brown..
And this one I call Rose of Cherokee's little sister "Little Falling Star" (Casteel-Roth):
I kinda like this one better...
I Hope you, as an Artist are encouraged. There are many more Artists that our grandmother worked with.
We just started preservation and remastering for the digital/virtual world, after grandmother passed away, so all the sites/digital distributors, etc., are relatively new and I was able to gain publisher status with global copyrights of all WRM works. I researched, wrote bios and released two new albums in Oct /Nov of last year. Esther was not computer savvy. As you know many old schooled did not get on the digital/virtual boat. Our new Sub-Publisher in EU (about 35 y/o label and publishing) says that our reputation of a 57 yo small record label is very reputable and not as obscure as other publishers and labels in EU first thought (upon his research of us). WRM has actually been called a 'legend' by some in EU recently. Grandmother was a first 'early pioneer' of Retro Country and Cowboy/Blues and Rockabilly; maintaining 1930's to 50's sound and style well into the late 1970's.
Sincerely,
WRM
