Biography of Mitch Hackney Genre- Country- Gospel
Born January 25th 1960
Rock Springs, Wyoming
Mitch Hackney currently resides in Cascade Colorado where he study’s music and writes on a daily basis. He is active in many songwriting organizations. He is a member of BMI. He is currently working on a new album consisting of some of his best handpicked material. A later gospel album is soon to follow with material wrote in the Colorado Mountain’s and through his travels in the United States. He has won songwriting awards and contest and is confident in moving up in the music world as a professional songwriter.
Mitch Hackney was born in Rock Springs, Wyoming on the 25th of January in 1960. He is the son of an oilfield worker that traveled many states from Wyoming to offshore rigs in Louisiana. He was enrolled in many schools as a child and had been well traveled by the time he was ten. Along with his Fathers occupation came the bars, taverns, and hole in the wall beer joints that played the music Mitch would soon learn to love, write and sing about. The music of Hank Williams, Conway Twitty, George Jones, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, Johnny and June Cash, Loretta Lynn and Tanya Tucker and so many more was deep in his blood. He could be found playing a straw broom to an Elvis song at age 5 where his siblings might have thought something was wrong with someone with the love for music he had. At age ten Mitch and the family, what was left, was living in southern Missouri in a small town named Thayer, were he went into foster care and was introduced to what he become to love by his new church life was southern Gospel. His teenage years bore the same love for country and gospel music. When his friends were listening to rock, Mitch was into a Conway and Loretta song and every style of country to be found. After a few years in foster care Mitch struck out on his own at age 17 with his first marriage to a girl in southern Missouri.
After a short marriage of a year or so he was back into what he loved most, fast cars, women and country music. Soon he was on the road with a move back to Wyoming to follow in his father’s footsteps. It wasn’t long he was moving up the ladder in the oilfields, and living the honky-tonk lifestyle of a roughneck. While Music was still his main focus, the bar fights, long nights and women seem to always get in the way. After five years in Wyoming Mitch moved back to a slower paced life in Hardy Arkansas, where he set in to write his music and live on the other side, write about it and not live it. However as a construction worker at day and managing bands at night, along with songwriting, life was not easily lived. Along with each came the hard lifestyle known to each trade.
After two more marriages in almost as many years, and many songs later with a life time of experience, along with many more cities, the songwriting finally started to take shape and look promising, with a couple of awards from smaller venues and recordings from KMA records in Nashville. He had some interested in his music, he once again set his main focus on songwriting. He settled in Colorado after a move from Oklahoma. To this day he has over 200 song catalogs that he continues to build. The music he writes is for female and male artist, from country, gospel, southern rock and some blues tunes now and then. His band is named after the county which he was born (Sweet Water County Band) He can be found in the southern Colorado Mountains where he enjoys fishing, hiking, and his two dogs Kayla and Angel.
