GYPSY RUNAWAY TRAIN Puts THE ROYS On Fast Track

By My Country Space
June 4 Release Contains Bluegrass Originals & Duo’s Favorite Standards

Nashville, TN (April 17, 2013) – THE ROYS latest full-length release, GYPSY RUNAWAY TRAIN, puts the award- winning sibling duo on the fast track.  Due in stores on June 4, their third outing for Rural Rhythm Records contains six Roys’ originals and some of their all-time favorite Bluegrass and Country classics.  Hot vocals, steamin’ pickin’, unbridled enthusiasm and passion make this 13-track wonder a celebration of the Roots genre.  Says Elaine Roy, “There was a real sense of freedom surrounding this whole project.  The album strips away all pretenses and gives the listener a glimpse of both the highs and lows of life.”

Recorded following the death of Lee’s beloved father-in-law and during Elaine’s painful divorce, the songs indeed address a broad spectrum of emotion.  For Lee, the entire process was cathartic.  “I wrote ‘Another Minute’ about my Grandpa,” he notes.  “But it makes you think about all kinds of loss.  Putting those feelings out there in a song makes it easier to live with them.”

Bluegrass wouldn’t be Bluegrass without plenty of raw emotion, and Elaine delves deep on the extremely personal “Half Of Me,” written about her recent divorce.  Heart-wrenching vocals and moving lyrics offer a poignant look at the separation.  Lee shines on the Gospel song “He Took Your Place,” a tune he’s been performing live for most of his professional career.

GYPSY RUNAWAY TRAIN isn’t just about pain.  The disc vibrates with positive thoughts and up-tempo energy on “You Can Count On My Love,” ”Born With A Hammer In My Hand,” the Haggard classic “Ramblin’ Fever,” as well as the title track which celebrates THE ROYS’ fans and the road.  The twosome brings exquisite harmonies to bear on a uniquely-arranged rendition of “Blue Moon Of Kentucky” that will surely leave Mr. Bill Monroe smiling.

For Sam Passamano II, President of Rural Rhythm Records, GYPSY RUNAWAY TRAIN is right on track.  “It really showcases Lee and Elaine's vocals and their signature sibling harmonies.  The quality, fine selection and diversity of the songs also help make this such an important and powerful album for them.  The fact that THE ROYS used their touring band on the cover tracks also speaks to a commitment to bring their fans a stronger connection between the music on disc and their live shows.”

"It's been a whirlwind," confirmed Elaine.  "But a good one."

That whirlwind is creating a media "storm," with reviewers praising The Roys' vocals, song selection and production values. Roughstock.com says, "With eleven fantastic tracks of acoustic country and bluegrass goodness, The Roys' album gets better with each and every listen … a supremely satisfying album." AOL/The Boot adds “LONESOME WHISTLE is more than a bluegrass album. The 11-track recording is something of a painting of American life and an appreciation of those who keep the faith in bleak times.” TheBluegrassSpecial.com calls their harmonies "captivating," and adds, " the voices are evocative (his reedy and a bit bluesy, hers bright with an appealing backwoods plaintiveness), the songs impressive and arresting, the playing impeccable."

The video of the duo's current single, "Coal Minin' Man," remains on GAC-TV's Top 20 Country Countdown ballot, and fans can vote for Lee and Elaine at http://bit.ly/VOTE4THEROYS.

LONESOME WHISTLE is the culmination of a lifelong dream for The Roys.

The 11-song disc includes 10 Roy originals, and was co-produced by the duo and Andy Leftwich.  Lee and Elaine join top-tier musicians Mark Fain (Bass); Justin Moses (Banjo); Randy Kohrs (Dobro); Cody Kilby (Acoustic Guitar), Andy Leftwich (Fiddle, Mandolin) and Steve Brewster (Percussion), and the result is a musically "tight" CD with a "live" feel.

The disc's first single, "Coal Minin' Man," is a rollicking, mid-tempo ode to the hardworking souls who labor below the earth.  The track debuted last month on the Bluegrass Music Profiles Chart (#17), and debuts this month on Power Source (#26), the Roots Music Bluegrass Report (#43), and more. The video, which was filmed in Hazard, KY at the Teco Coal Company, rolls out very soon. LONESOME WHISTLE will be available tomorrow at retail outlets, including Barnes & Noble, Best Buy and f.y.e. entertainment, and online at Amazon.com, iTunes, eMusic and more.

The disc is The Roys' first release for Rural Rhythm Records and they join a roster that includes Michael Martin Murphey, Randy Kohrs, Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out, Mason Douglas and Lonesome River Band among others.

Upcoming press coverage includes Bluegrass Music Profiles, Bluegrass UnlimitedBluegrass Journal, The Bluegrass Blog, TheBluegrassSpecial.com, Cybergrass, Prescription Bluegrass, Ted's Bluegrass Blog, Country Weekly, Country Music Profiles, Country Music People, Country Music News, Music Row, Maverick, Strum Magazine, THIS is Country Music, Arkansas Democrat, Boston Herald, Boston Post Gazette, Direct Buzz, Songwriter's Monthly, Power Source, Slick Rock Entertainment Magazine, Troy Daily News, Worcester Telegram, Amazon, Digital Rodeo, Examiner.com, Music News Nashville, ParcBench.com, NoDepression, Roughstock, Singing News, Roots Music Report, Rambles,  Stacy's Music Row Report, StageShottz, Today's Country and YallWire.
