#CMChat & Canadian Country, Craig Moritz

By My Country Space

Jessica Northey’s #CMchat Trending on Twitter

To say that Jessica Northey of Tucson-based Finger Candy Media’s #CMchat Twitter launch has succeeded in its first year would be a massive understatement.

Country Music Chat, also known as #CMChat,” her Web site states, “has generated over 1.5 Billion impressions since its beginning in May 2011 on Twitter, and reached over 50 Million according to Hashtracking.com.” ((I was wrong about the numbers, spoke to Charlie from Hashtracking and it is 1.5 BILLION IPRESSION (with a B–WOW)

A Washington Times feature on Northey in July said that “Twitter chats work because they provide access to celebrities/influencers, centralize discussion and keep people regularly engaged with a topic. They are almost an untapped resource for promoting to a targeted and engaged group of people.”

In a mid-July phone conversation from her office in Arizona, Northey said that #CMChat “is a Hashtag community that brings together people all speaking about this same subject.” *Hashtags are words or phrases prefixed with the symbol #, a form of metadata tag used to group and isolate these when clicked upon.* READ MORE >>>

The radio release of the song will be followed by the official video release on YouTube in late July. Jerry Kilgore Releases New Album - Telephone, TX

By My Country Space

Featured on Cover of Country Music People

Nashville, TN (July 23, 2012) – Jerry Kilgore, in association with Nic Nic Neer Records, is pleased to announce the release of his highly-anticipated new album Telephone, TX. Reaction from international music press and fans alike has been tremendous—the album’s first pressing has already sold outKilgore recently shot the video for the first single, “Places To Go,” off the new record. Other standout tracks on the album include traditional cuts like"Can't Hide a Heartache" and "If You Wanna Keep Your Beer Cold,"as well as the soaring ballad "Right Where You Belong." Kilgore is planning another European tour and writing more songs, so expect to hear a lot more from him in the coming months. Telephone, TX can be purchased at most large online music stores,www.honkytonkinmusic.com (overseas distributer) andhttp://www.cdbaby.com/m/cd/jerrykilgore2.

Telephone, TX is more me than any other record I’ve ever done,” said Kilgore. “I’m excited for fans in the states to hear it.”

In April 2012, Jerry performed a string of concerts across Britain with country legend Johnny Rodriguez and has just returned from England after performing at the massive annual Americana International Festival near Nottingham.  On the heels of his current UK success, Jerry Kilgore follows Carrie Underwood as the July cover artist for Britain’s prestigious Country Music People Magazine, who called Kilgore’s new album "a prime example of the sort of record they should be making in Music City more often."

Growing up in the rural working class community of Tillamook, Ore., with Merle Haggard fans for parents, perhaps it was inevitable that Jerry Kilgore would hear the call of country music early on. Kilgore’s grandmother gave him his first guitar when he was just twelve years old, but it was an experience when he was eighteen that changed the course of his life.

“Back in 1986, I went to see George Strait at a huge honky tonk called the Flower Drum,” Jerry recalls. “I was underage, but my parents got me in, and I was mesmerized by him. Not long after that, I was fronting a five-piece band I had put together. We soon became the house band at the Flower Drum, where George had played."

Kilgore’s course was set. He spent the next several years working the club scene playing classic country, first in Oregon, then in Phoenix, where a romantic breakup first inspired him to try his hand at writing his own songs. Soon Kilgore’s original songs were getting more requests at his shows than his covers. Jerry then spent two more years honing his chops in North Carolina before deciding to take a shot at Nashville. The young musician dragged his possessions into the yard and put a “For Sale” sign out, and the next day he loaded whatever hadn’t sold into his pickup truck and headed out for Music City.

Within a few short years, Kilgore began to have success as a songwriter, penning “Love Lessons” for Tracy Byrd, “Leavin’ Comin’ On” for Mark Wills, “Cover You in Kisses” for John Michael Montgomery and “If A Man Ain’t Thinking About His Woman” for Clay Walker. Kilgore’s songs caught the attention of powerhouse country producer Scott Hendricks, who had produced Alan Jackson, Faith Hill and Brooks and Dunn among many others. Hendricks was president of Virgin Records’ new Nashville office at that time.

“He came out to a club and saw me play,” Kilgore says. “A week later he offered me a record deal on Virgin Records as the first male artist that they were signing.”

The result was 1999’s Love Trip, which brought together Kilgore’s classic influences like Haggard, Buck Owens, Gene Watson, George Strait and Ricky Skaggs in a contemporary country album that critics and fans alike hailed as the debut of a major new traditionalist. Kilgore got to live out many of his dreams, including playing the Grand Ole Opry and going on tour with George Strait, who had inspired him in the first place.

“It was kinda full circle,” Kilgore recalls.  “I got to go on his tour as an opening act. It was great. It was a lot of fun.”

Though Love Trip’s title song was a Top 40 hit, Virgin Nashville was struggling financially, and the label soon folded, leaving Kilgore out on tour and with records in stores, but no label support.
“Things were rolling, but the label wasn’t,” Kilgore says. “So that was that.”

Jerry Kilgore spent the next several years re-grouping, playing, writing new songs and recording, figuring out his next move. In 2007 he formed his own label and released his second album Loaded and Empty, which he co-produced with Matt Rollings. Songs like “What’s It Take To Get A Drink In Here”, “Down On My Luck”, “Loaded and Empty” and “Both Be On Our Way” continued in the Kilgore tradition of classic-yet-contemporary country.

Telephone, TX is Jerry Kilgore’s strongest work to date, and the word of mouth has been tremendous. After one listen to Jerry Kilgore’s new  album Telephone, TX,you’ll know why Country Music Disc Jockey Hall of Famer Bill Cody (WSM Radio, GAC-TV) says:“When Jerry Kilgore opens that Oregon, country & western mouth and sings, the future of traditional country music gets brighter with every note!”

NATIONAL MUSIC COUNCIL APPOINTS THE OAK RIDGE BOYS AS OFFICIAL NATIONAL ANTHEM SINGERS

By My Country Space

PROCLAMATION ANNOUNCED DURING GRAND OLE OPRY
BY WSM’S EDDIE STUBBS

Nashville, Tenn. (July 18, 2012)  The prestigious National Music Council has appointed The Oak Ridge Boys as the official leading singers of America’s National Anthem, “The Star Spangled Banner.” The proclamation recognizes the iconic group’s contribution to the preservation of patriotic American music, their longstanding advancement of musical culture and their commitment to celebrating the global diversity of music traditions. It’s also in celebration of the Oaks’ continued service as ambassadors of American culture. Last night, WSM’s Eddie Stubbs made the announcement while introducing the group at the world renowned Grand Ole Opry.

“The Oak Ridge Boys have been global ambassadors of American music and culture for decades,” states NMC Director Dr. David Sanders. “Cultural diplomacy is more important now than ever before, and this designation is a way for us to highlight the role that musicians, creators, and artists play in bettering our nation’s relationship with the world. The singing of the Star Spangled Banner is emblematic not only of the pride we all take in our own country, but also of the appreciation and respect we have for other cultures and musical genres that have played such an important role in shaping America's own, distinctive musical voice."

Oak Ridge Boys member Duane Allen describes the appointment as a reflection of the group’s patriotic pride. “Just reading the proclamation gives me chills.  The National Music Council represents all of the major music organizations in America. The Oak Ridge Boys enjoy the privilege of leading in the singing of our National Anthem. We love to hear an entire football stadium singing it with gusto with us. Being designated is a huge honor, and we are humbled to be selected by the NMC.”
